ASYM is a powerful waveform/CV mixer & voltage-controlled amplifier.  The circuit has been intricately designed with 100% discrete components.

The first section of ASYM consists of three input channels—each with independent level sliders.  The signals are bussed together and applied to a configuration of Sziklai differential pairs.  This facet of the design was in part influenced by early ARP synthesizer designs.  The transistor-based mixer stages produce both positive and negative outputs—a concept we borrowed from the venerable Moog CP-3. Complex and novel waveforms can be conjured by manipulating the channel sliders, overloading the levels, and varying the Principal rotary control.  

The mixer section’s positive output is normalled to the VCA input.

The second section of ASYM consists of a fully discrete VCA sub-circuit. The design itself was originally inspired by vintage Japanese Class-A amplifier engineering. The VCA incorporates two linear control voltage inputs.

All inputs accept both audio and control voltages in the range of +/-10 V.
